Ancient Technique Empowers Modern Lifestyle
Acupuncture is the time tested therapy that has been practiced in China for thousands of years. It's a part of Chinese medicine. The philosophy behind Acupuncture (Web site: Wikipedia ) is that energy lines or meridians circulate around the body. These meridians contain our energy flow or “Qi” “气”. It is when this Qi is impaired through the body that imbalance and illness occurs. With the insertion of fine needles at various points on the meridian, the energy can be moved or redirected to where it is needed most. In this way the body's balance can be restored and the illness resolved.
A typical acupuncture session in AC clinic (Montreal) begins with a Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) diagnosis that can take from 40 minutes to one hour or more. It usually includes a review of the patient’s symptoms, an evaluation of the patient’s physical appearance , an assessment of diet and lifestyle, and, most importantly, observations of the pulse and tongue. This protocol enables the acupuncturist to identify the disharmony or imbalance, and then to select an appropriate treatment strategy.
When receiving acupuncture, the patient generally lies on their back, front or side, depending on which part of the body is being treated. In some cases, it may be necessary to sit in a chair. Depended on the diagnosis, acupuncturist selects the appropriate acupuncture points where the needles will be inserted.
In Ac Clinic, we only use sterilized, disposable acupuncture needles for the treatment. The needles come in varying lengths and most are not much thicker than a hair. The choice of needle size is based on clinical judgement, and usually governed by the point being treated and the response the practitioner is seeking.
